The West Country Archive: £20m dream for Falmouth

A Norwegian businessman has announced that he intends to invest up to£20 million into developing an exclusive waterfront complexincorporating two restaurants and a stone amphitheatre in Falmouth.The Packet can exclusively reveal that Rolf Munding, who ownsbusinesses around the country and worked closely with Tim Smit in theearly stages of the Eden Project, plans to develop the CoastlineWharf, near Falmouth Marina.In a presentation to members of Falmouth town council's planningcommittee, he announced his hopes of building two restaurants - one ofwhich would be linked to an exclusive, 14-bedroomed hotel - a stone,Roman-style amphitheatre, a series of outlets for arts and crafts andthree floors of residential properties. Accompanying the developmentwould be a floating deck with short-stay berths for boats and he alsowanted to re-seed the oyster bed.Mr Munding, who already owns the land, said: "What I build isn't justa run-of-the mill development for money. I develop a site once everyfour or five years, if I can find one that's really special to dosomething with.
